Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention
The goal of the Region 10 Prevention Resource Center (PRC) is to provide, for all ages, information, skills, and environments that will prevent or delay the onset of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug experimentation and use that may lead to substance abuse addiction and many other related problems.
With funding assistance from the Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention of the Department of Health and Human Services, the PRC operates a clearinghouse for print materials and a loan library of books and audio-visual materials. Training for both adult and youth leaders and technical assistance in prevention program development is provided by the PRC.
The PRC is affiliated with Southwest Arkansas Counseling & Mental Health Center. The PRC Coordinator is a Certified Prevention Specialist with a Bachelor Degree in Arts. The staff is skilled in assisting communities in recognizing community, school, and family risk factors, and in helping to design alcohol, tobacco, and other drug education and prevention activities, which are tailored to meet specific needs.
The PRC works in the community through five domains:
Serving a six-county area, which includes Hempstead, Howard, Little River, Miller, Sevier and Lafayette Counties, the PRC is working to inform all citizens about the dangers of substance abuse, as well as encouraging active volunteer participation in our communities to create healthy environments.
